Where's That Water Coming From?

We walked our two miles this morning, it was a lot warmer than it has been, yea!  Nutrioso Creek is still running and we got to wondering today if the spillway at Nelson's Reservoir is where the water is coming from?

Nutrioso Creek

The beans I planted on the 21st are coming up!
John is making progress on the bear.

This afternoon we took a drive up  to Nelson's Reservoir to check out the spillway and sure enough it's overflowing, so that's the source of the water in Nutrioso Creek.

The spillway is running over, snow must be melting and filling
the lake.
The path we took down the slippery slope to get on the other
side of the fence to see the spillway better was so muddy!
I was about 2 inches taller when we got back!

It's Spring! (In My Greenhouse)

We bundled up and walked this morning.  It wasn't too bad, I think we're getting used to it, or we've learned how to dress to walk in the cold.  The guys we saw sleeping under the trees on Saturday were gone today, there is a blanket on the ground where they were, I wonder if they left it, or if it's a marker for people walking through to find the spot.

The valley is filled with smoke

My peas, it's so fun to watch them grow.  The little sprouts in
front of them are carrots.

It's looking like spring in my greenhouse!  I love it!

I've always wondered what the cure for baldness was, now I know!

Photo Shoot and a Ride

I took photos of Jessie in her pretty new dress this morning.  She is going to wear it to a school Valentine's dance on February 10th.  The 6th, 7th, and 8th grades will be attending.  What fun for her!

We colored the pages we printed out yesterday and Jessie cut out the Hello Kitty paper dolls and we had fun playing with them.

Jessie's Hello Kitty all dressed up
Then it was time to meet her folks in St. Johns to give her back.  We're always sad when she goes!  She's such a joy to have.  We saw two people at the end of our street hitchhiking, we think they are the same people we saw sleeping under the tree yesterday morning.

We met Jessie's folks at Subway for lunch, then went to grandma's house to get the wood John hadn't been able to get and visit with grandma.

A Day With Jessie

Jessie walked with us this morning, we saw some people sleeping under a tree!  We saw the sleeping bags as we went down the road and as we were coming back, one of the people was sitting up.  I thought it was an empty bag!  Jessie got to see the elk living with the cows and we stopped to see some bulls that were eating their breakfast and some beautiful horses.  We enjoyed the walk!

Jessie is shooting the horse!  LOL, with a camera!

The elk is almost in the middle of the photo.

Jessie and I went shopping this afternoon and found some great bargains at the dollar store, Christmas stuff is cheap

Getting Wood

John gave me an orchid plant for our anniversary and it's still
blooming!
John went to St. Johns to cut down a dead willow tree at his Mom's house so he could give the wood to Andy's family and to make sure the tree didn't fall on their shop when the spring winds come.  I stayed home, it was one of my tired days when I just want to sleep!

The tree John cut down for Andy's family
After he got the wood loaded he came home for lunch and later I went with him to deliver the wood.  Jessie wanted to come home with us for the weekend, so we brought her.  What fun!

River Walk

Walked this morning, we've missed two days and it was hard to push myself to go the 2 miles.  It was a bit chilly, but not bad out.

Escudilla on the left and Flat Top on the right.  Walking here
makes me wish I lived on this road, such a great view!

Later, I went to the River Walk Trail looking for photos.  I was hoping some snow would be left close to the river, but it was mostly melted.

Love this section of the trail!
John took me out for lunch to Trail Riders, he had the special, I had red chili, both were delicious!

Bear Attack

John came in this morning as I was getting ready to go for a walk, he had been lowering his bear sculpture from the waist high table it was on when the chains he was using slipped and the sculpture tipped and headed for the floor.  In slowing its descent to the floor, one of the spikes cut his hand.  I cleaned the cut, determined it didn't need stitches, and we checked to see if he needed a tetanus shot.  He did, so we ended up at Dr. Hamblin's to get him one.  They've changed the shot since we last had one, so they suggested I get one too, so we both ended up getting shot.  We're all protected for 10 years, and I've got a very sore arm!

Off to the clinic to get a shot.
I got my Amazon order today, a date stamp, a book on cold greenhouse growing and Mary Slade's book Silver Spurs and Sweet Memories.  I spent the rest of the day reading Mary's book.  It is the story of her life and living with Clint's Alzheimer's, so sad.

My Amazon Order
It was a cold day and we never did make it out for our walk.

Snow

It snowed during the night and we had about an inch when we got up.  It continued to snow lightly off and on and the sky was overcast most of the day.  Burr, it was a cold dreary day!

5 am, and it's snowing!
Cold and overcast.

My Greenhouse has snow on the roof!

It's 50 degrees inside the greenhouse and freezing cold outside!
Progress on the bear.
Bending the spikes, a tedious job!
The view out our living room window, not many people have a
dinosaur in their yard!

It's Monday Again - Already!!

Wow, where do the weeks go, they seem to fly by so fast!
Here's some views from our morning walk.

We could see this small animal walking along the road and
weren't sure what it was.  I zoomed in on it to try and figure
it out.  It was a cat with no tail!

Looking west, we see this view on our walks, there is snow on
the mountains.

The windmill fills the trough for the cattle.

We've Got Snow

We got a bit of snow last night.  All is calm and cold this morning, so glad the wind is gone!  John checked and the greenhouse vent windows made it through the wind, they're only held on with silicone seal, no other fasteners like the walls have, so I have been worried that they will blow off in high winds.

We haven't had much snow this winter, just a light skiff when
it snows.
Andy, Susan, Josh and Jessie came over this afternoon to pick up the stuff Jessie forgot last time she stayed with us.  John, Josh, Jessie and I played wii games while Susan and Andy went shopping for wood.  We had fun!

Yea, the girls won!
I'm reading the latest Dean Koontz book, it's the first of his books that I haven't loved reading. I could see where he was going by the end, but it just wasn't as interesting as most of his books are.

Cold, Windy Day

We cut our walk short this morning because the wind was picking up and it was getting colder.  We walked over a mile, so that's good!  I took this cool picture on our way past the corral.

John is working on his bear again after a break to help his brother build a lift for their Mom.  She is unable to get herself up now, and the kids need something to help lift her.

Working on the bear.
Things are growing in the greenhouse.  We noticed today that the peas on the north side are bigger than the ones on the south.  Maybe the heat from the brick wall is keeping those peas warmer.  Still no lettuce up, I replanted for the third time, hope these come up!

Things are growing!
Trish, Carleen and I started on South Beach earlier this month.  Here's what I had for supper.  It was yummy!

My South Beach supper, it was good!

Cooking the squash Mel and Ruth gave us, I had some for supper
it's so good!
Looking across the street at our 4 neighbors, love watching
them.
The wind picked up this afternoon and was still blowing when we went to bed.  Not looking forward to the spring winds, but they do bring warm weather and summer, so I'll put up with them for that!
