Official Halloween Day

We had nice weather today and went for a walk along the River Walk trail. The trees are all dressed for fall and there are black berries on some of the trees, not sure what they are, they are mostly still on the trees or fallen on the ground and I'm wondering why the animals aren't eating them? I followed their lead and didn't taste them!

After we did the river walk we drove out the highway to find the flaming red bush we saw the other day. We found it even though it wasn't as red as it was when we spotted it the other day and most of the leaves have blown off. After looking at the leaves, I think it belongs to the same family as the bushes we have in our front yard. I don't know why that one bush was so red while nothing else around it was. While we were out in the field, walking back to the pickup, some rude person driving past on the highway honked at us, at first we thought he was giving us a friendly wave, but he wasn't, he was giving us a rude sign, and he yelled an obscenity at us. What's up with people!!

Eric got sprung from the hospital today, I'll bet he was happy to get out! Not sure they know what caused his problems, he's going home with diabetes and I'm not sure if they got the pancreatitis cleared up or not.

Nikki is going trick or treating tonight, hope she has a fun time! Here's her costume. I snagged it from her facebook.

Halloween Celebrations

RV is celebrating Halloween tonight. We went out to eat at the Trail Riders in Eagar and the city was setting up fun things for the kids to do in the Bashas parking lot. The fire trucks were there, the firemen were going to be making hot dogs for the kids, and people were setting up for trunk or treating. Bashas was giving out candy to the kids throughout the store. What fun!

Trick or Treating stop for the restaurant we ate at.

In Springerville, the Main Street merchants were set up for trick or treating and there were lots of costumed kids walking down the street. Fun times for kids! This is the stop for the Chamber of Commerce.

Don't ya love this costume worn by a merchant handing out candy at Valley Auto! She made the costume herself!

Kids Trick or Treating on Main Street. I love these creative costumes! There's a coke can, not sure what the next one is, a candy corn and a chain saw.

I ordered my computer today, it's on backorder, I could have gotten it somewhere else right away, but I wanted to get it from Amazon.

Halloween is popping up all over!

We came upon this HUGE fellow while visiting Eric at the hospital today. He makes John look like a midget! They are still not sure what all is going on with Eric, he has diabetes due to his pancreatitis, but they are thinking now that he doesn't have gall stones and so won't need surgery.

On the way home, we stopped to take a closer look at the "graveyard" at Java Blues. Everyone is getting ready for Halloween!

The last Long Change

John's last long change of his career began today. Wow, that makes retirement look close! Only 7 night shifts and 11 day shifts left. . .

We had a nice long break under the locust tree this afternoon after he got home from work. Not many days left to do that and still have leaf cover, although it's getting pretty thin now and I can see the sky and street through the remaining leaves.

Dawn and a Decadent Cake

Guess you can tell I love watching the sun come up, LOL! And I don't even have to get up early to see it rise these days.

I baked a cake today! It's been a long time since I baked a whole cake. We usually microwave small individual servings.

Here's how it turned out, it was called Decadent Supreme Chocolate Mousse, so the frosting is creamy and pudding like, and boy does it taste decadent!

Cold and breezy

Burr, it's been cool and breezy again today. I picked all the tomatoes from half the vines, left the others for now. Lots of green tomatoes left on the vines! Noticed today that the leaves on the locust tree look weird, the opposing leaves have folded over on the other sides leaf, wonder if the cold made them do that?

John and I visited Eric in the hospital this evening. They are still doing tests to find the problem, they're thinking maybe gall bladder. They've got two aquariums full of salt water fish, so cool!

Wind!!

The wind woke us up about 3 am, howling and banging stuff around. Grrrr! It's blown all the leaves off my tree in the front yard and I'm seeing dirt devils going up and down the street carrying dirt and twigs and leaves everywhere! The lawn is covered in pine needles again, and there are small branches from the locust tree piled up on the ground. Wow, hope this isn't going to last very long!

The power pole that's right next to our house has been flaking parts of it off and cracking for several years now and we found another part of it on the ground this morning. We keep telling Navopache about it, but they keep doing nothing about it. One of these days it's going to crack and fall and it's probably going to take out a part of our roof with it! Wonder if we should report it to our insurance company, maybe they could put pressure on Navopache to replace it.

Eric was admitted to the hospital today. They're not sure what's wrong and are doing tests. He thought he had a severe case of the stomach flu, but the doc thinks it may be something else, like his panaceas.

Trip to Terry Flat

We finally got time in our busy schedule to drive up to Terry Flat. We noticed yesterday that most of the yellow was gone from the top of Escudilla, so we kind of expected the top to be bare and it was pretty much, but we still got to see some beautiful scenery and gold leaves. It was cold, the temps were in the 40's and there was frost on the ground, in spots it was heavy enough to look like snow, but on close inspection, it wasn't. Terry Flat is wild and beautiful! Love it up there.

Red Chili Fix

We had a couple things we needed to do in St. Johns, so we ran down to do them and took Mom out to eat at El Camino so we could get a red chili fix. They make the best red chili we've ever eaten!

It hasn't frozen in SJ yet and Mom's garden is still producing! She gave us some chili and bell peppers, one is shaped like a chili and is orange and sweet and so good! I'm saving the seeds to plant next year!

Heating Season Has Begun

When I got up this morning I found that John had turned on the ETS heater last night and turned up the thermostat on our furnace. He said he heard the furnace come on a couple times in the night. We didn't make it until the end of the month, bummer! Here's our cloudy dawn.

It feels like winter today, cloudy and cold! I can see storm clouds over the mountains, I wonder if they are getting snow? We had to go to Show Low this afternoon to get the stitches out of John's jaw and we watched the clouds grow heavier all the way over. While John was getting his stitches out, I took pictures outside the docs office, it's an interesting place! It rained a bit while we were in Wal Mart and when we came out I was wishing I had a coat!

Backing Up Is Hard To Do!

That's what I've been doing the last couple days. My poor hard drive is stuffed and groaning again, would you believe less than 100MB free!! Yup, that's MB not GB! I just need a hard drive that will grow and expand as I fill it up! So, I've been burning DVD's and copying to an external drive and deleting from the computer and staring at this screen for way too long!

I need to get going and decide on a computer and get it ordered!! Here's the one I'm thinking about:
http://www.amazon.com/G73JW-A1-Republic-Gamers-17-3-Inch-Gaming/dp/B0041RRS0I/ref=sr_1_17?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1287685136&sr=1-17

This is a gaming computer, I can't find one made especially for scrapbooking and it may be a bit overdo, but it shouldn't bog down like my Gateway does and it has 1 TB of storage, that should last me for a while! What do you all think?? From what I am reading, the brand is rated very high, about on a par with a Mac for reliability.

Today was cloudy and we got some rain. It sure made it smell nice outside!

We had another beautiful eastern sunset tonight. The clouds always make for a beautiful sunset!

Cooler weather

Still getting the hazardous weather warning and it's cooler today and still breezy. Here's what the paper says:

Low pressure near San Diego will move slowly Eastward into South Central Arizona tonight. Occasional showers and thunderstorms will continue across Northern and Central Arizona as the low approaches. The main threats today will be locally heavy rain and isolated strong thunderstorms containing hail and gusty winds. The strongest thunderstorms will be most likely in Apache, Southern Navajo, and Northeastern Gila counties this afternoon and evening.

Lately, the sunset sky has been more colorful in the east than the west, don't know what's up with that?

Check out this cool cloud formation.
