A Two Mile Walk

I finally figured out how to set up my new pedometer and wore it on our walk this morning. I was disappointed to find that it said we were only walking 2 miles, not the 3 the Tom Tom said we were. The spot I was standing on to take this photo is 1 mile from our house. It was a bit cold this morning and I wore my hat and gloves, but it was warmer than yesterday.

Breezy Day

It's been a bit breezy with high clouds today. We walked in spite of the wind and cold, but only to the corral and back, it was getting too cold and John didn't have a warm hat or gloves like I did. I'm loving my Cody Lundin hat, it may look funny, but it keeps my head and ears nice and toasty! Wow, this cow is giving me a dirty look, like how dare I take his picture! I love our walk route, and the animals and scenery!

The rug I hosed off yesterday was dry, so we put it in the sun room and put the recliners on it. A nice cozy place to sit and have breaks!

The day ended with a gorgeous sunset! I glanced out the window and there is was. I grabbed my camera and ran out to enjoy and shoot it. Pictures never do show the full colors, but here's one I shot.

Nice Day

John saw a big plume of smoke and we went out to see what was burning. I guess it was just trash, it was behind buildings and we couldn't see it very well.

It's warming up now and we were shedding coats on our walk this morning. John is redoing my planting barrel that's in front. He's making one from a metal barrel so it will blend in with all the rusty metal we have in the yard. The sky clouded up this evening, wonder if we'll get some rain?

Monday

A picture from our walk this morning. Looking up the road from the creek.

John is building a scooter, here's the progress he's made on it.

My new rocker shoes, I'm having a hard time working up to walking very far in them! Every time my foot hits the floor, it sends a jar through me. I think I'm not doing it right.

ADSR Begins Today

The Amazing Digi Scrapping Race started today. We got our first challenge, to introduce our family. I'm going to be putting my race layouts up on my other blog, if you want to see them.

Jessie and John have had a contest while she's been visiting us. He gave her 50 cents each day and every time she said the word "Like" the wrong way, she had to give him one penny back. The first day, he got most of them back. Yesterday and today, she didn't have to give any back!! She's counting her pennies in the picture, I can't remember now how much she ended up with. Today was Jessie's last day with us, we met her folks at KMart, we needed some things in ShowLow, so we took Jessie shopping with us. I got some rocker shoes, hope they will be comfy, I'm having trouble balancing on them right now. We went on up to WalMart to finish up our list after we met Andy and Susan, and got the rest of our list. I got a rebounder so I can run on it with the wii. My feet hurt running in place on the floor! It was sure quiet to come home to an empty house this evening.

saturday

We started the day with a walk. It was COLD out, but we braved the cold and went to the corrals before chilling out and turning back.

John and Jessie finished cleaning up the pile of pine needles in the front yard, it's looking good now! We cleaned in the sun room, didn't finish, but made a good start. Jessie painted again today while John worked on his scooter, she did a painting of a house on a hill today. Pretty cool shading on it. Here's what she did yesterday and today.

We had a bit of calm weather before the wind picked up midmorning and it was nice out! Can't wait for summer to get here.

The New Chairs arrived today

We moved furniture around this morning, washed windows and vacuumed the carpet, and had the room all ready for the new chairs. Jessie was such a big help to us, washing windows and vacuuming.

Then John and Jessie moved a big pile of pine needles from the front yard and put them back by the compost piles. Jessie made a good weight on the piles so they wouldn't fall off while Pa was moving them. And it was a fun ride for her!

Remember that chip package I put out to compost a LONG time ago, the one that said it composts fast? Well, they dug it out of the pile and it doesn't look any different than it did when I put it in there, just dirty.

As they were moving the needle pile, the guys showed up with the chairs. They look so nice and we are going to enjoy them. The old ones are wearing out and aren't as comfy as they were when new.

We put the old chairs in the sunroom and started cleaning it up. This afternoon John and Jessie painted, John is working on a painting of Obed and Jessie is painting on of John's scratchboards. This evening, we played wii and watched another movie on Jessie's John Wayne set.

The Falls and a Picnic

We went on our annual picnic to 20 foot falls today. We missed the peak flow, but it was still running and we could get to places that have been covered in water in past years. We crossed over the stream and checked out a pond where we could hear frogs singing. Of course they stopped as they heard us approach and hid. We had a fun time playing around the falls. It was pretty windy when we left home, but all the trees around the falls kind of blocked the wind and it wasn't too bad there. Just pretty chilly in the shade and we decided to eat our lunch in the pickup where it was warmer.

Jessie's 50 cent boots, just what she needed for today's rough terrain!

After we left the falls, we went for a drive in the woods, past mineral creek and turned up towards Whiting Sawmill. We saw 2 groups of 12 to 14 elk, and a herd of a dozen or more turkeys! Pretty cool!

There was still snow on the ground and it got deeper as we went higher. We turned around just before we got to Halls Spring, we had crossed several patches where the road was covered in snow, traveling in another vehicles tracks, but we didn't want to take a chance of getting stuck. We all agreed it was a pretty fantastic day!

Jessie's Here!

John and I trimmed the pine trees this morning, there were lots of dead branches tangled in the middle of the three trees and we cut them away and trimmed back the big tree that was touching the roof again. Wow, we can see daylight now! While we were working, Jessie called wondering if she could come over today. She is on Spring Break and we were going to pick her up tomorrow. We said sure and met her and her Mom at the midway about 2. We checked out the drainage from the falls and it looks like there has been water running, but it's pretty low now, but we decided we'd go visit the falls tomorrow anyway. Jessie only brought flip flops with her, so John got the bright idea to check out the thrift store and see if they had any boots and they did and we got her a pair for 50 cents! We also found some cool jackets and got her 3 jackets for $3! One of them is fake fur, two are denim. John also found a nice looking jacket.

We picked up hotdogs and built our first fire outside and roasted the dogs for supper. Yum! John made a huge roasting stick a while back and he roasted all our hot dogs at once!

Burrr!

The day started cloudy and cold. I went for a walk to the corner and back and could feel moisture on my face. I wasn't sure if it was rain or snow, but when I looked at the front of my jacket, I knew, it was snow! I saw a snowplow heading west and one heading up the Alpine highway, so it must have been snowing enough to need a plow somewhere. We did get a bit of snow here, just a light dusting.

I rode out to the dump with John this afternoon. They are putting the wires on the new poles now, won't be long until they're finished. Hate that the poles ruin the view!

Fearsome Wind!

The wind has been howling today, it looks like maybe it's storming off towards the mountains. We have a 60% chance of rain or snow tonight and it looks like this week is going to be a windy one. We were hoping it would be nice weather, Jessie is going to visit us and we were hoping to be able to take her to the 20 foot falls. Maybe it will blow over and be nice when she gets here!

We went out for a ride today and I spotted this sign. Charles has me checking them out for spelling these days, he's collecting them. LOL, I'd rather "buy" the property and not the owner!

We did get a bit of rain this evening. I could hear it hitting the window, but not much was showing up on the ground.

Spring Roars in With Fierce Winds!

I went out early this morning to check out the moonset, but it was mostly obscured by clouds. Today is the first day of spring, but you wouldn't know it from our weather!

The temperature has dropped and the wind is blowing today. Weatherman says rain/snow is coming.

John and I saw a cool old car on the way to the grocery store and stopped and checked it out. It's for sale, but $7000 and lots of fixing up to do didn't seem like a good deal to us!

Super Moon and Radiation Has Reached California!

Thanks to a fluke of orbital mechanics that brings the moon closer to Earth than it has been in more than 18 years, the biggest full moon of 2011 will occur on Saturday, leading some observers to dub it a "supermoon."

On Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, the moon will arrive at its closest point to the Earth in 2011: a distance of 221,565 miles (356,575 kilometers) away. And only 50 minutes earlier, the moon will officially be full.

I went out about 5 this morning to check it out and got this shot. I hope to remember to check it this evening as it rises, too.

Radiation has been detected in California now and they say it will pass clear across the country. They claim the levels are safe, but I wonder if they are being truthful?

We went for a short walk this morning. The wind was already blowing so I bundled up in my "Cody Lundin" hat and gloves and was nice and toasty. The wind wasn't bad going, it was at our back, but coming home, which is uphill, it was in our faces and made the walking harder. We saw some fresh deer prints, wish we'd been earlier and seen the deer!

Where'd They Go?

John and I took a trip to St. Johns to check out some ski lift cars that were being given away. Guess someone took them up on the offer, as there were none left. We have been looking at them for years, thinking they were cute and wondering what we could make from one.

We saw a couple trees in bloom while we driving through St. Johns! Spring has arrived there. I haven't seen any blooms here yet. That may be a good thing as they are predicting snow for next Monday and if it does they'd freeze.

John is working on a project for Gary and we went by the airport to see what he needs and I got a shot of John's plane, it's parked at the airport until the barn opens.
