The Falls and a Picnic

We went on our annual picnic to 20 foot falls today. We missed the peak flow, but it was still running and we could get to places that have been covered in water in past years. We crossed over the stream and checked out a pond where we could hear frogs singing. Of course they stopped as they heard us approach and hid. We had a fun time playing around the falls. It was pretty windy when we left home, but all the trees around the falls kind of blocked the wind and it wasn't too bad there. Just pretty chilly in the shade and we decided to eat our lunch in the pickup where it was warmer.

Jessie's 50 cent boots, just what she needed for today's rough terrain!

After we left the falls, we went for a drive in the woods, past mineral creek and turned up towards Whiting Sawmill. We saw 2 groups of 12 to 14 elk, and a herd of a dozen or more turkeys! Pretty cool!

There was still snow on the ground and it got deeper as we went higher. We turned around just before we got to Halls Spring, we had crossed several patches where the road was covered in snow, traveling in another vehicles tracks, but we didn't want to take a chance of getting stuck. We all agreed it was a pretty fantastic day!
