Killing Lincoln

I've been reading a book about the assassination of President Lincoln. I find myself so engrossed in it that I keep thinking, don't go to the theater tonight, as though I could change the outcome, LOL! It's an interesting book, I don't remember hearing about all the conspirators and the other assassinations planned for that night when I was in school.

It was cold and breezy again today.  So tired of cold weather!  John braved the cold and went on a tour of Casa Malpais this morning to take some photos for his scratchboard project.  He said it was freezing up there!

Casa Malpais
I called Mom to ask about Stewart.  He is expected to live, but will be in the hospital for a long time.  His back was also burned as well as his arms and throat.  She said they found paper ashes on the floor by the burned chair, so think maybe he was smoking and started the papers on fire.

John is working on the keel of his sailboat.

My greenhouse.
Andy came by for lunch, he'd been to a meeting here in town.  We had avocado burgers and a good visit with him!

We read on facebook today that a solar flare was
causing metal brooms to stand by themselves so we
had to try it.  Ours did stand up, but being the skeptics
we are, we weren't through with the experiment yet, LOL.
Next we tried standing the metal handle up without
the bristles, it fell down. Humm, if they were right it
seems that it should have stood by itself!
Then we removed the metal handle and put in
a wooden handle, no metal on it now and guess
what, it still stood up!  John tried it with a metal
handled broom in his shop, the bristles were worn
and that broom didn't stand up!  Conclusion, the
bristles are holding the brooms up and they would
stand up any day of the year, the solar flare
has nothing to do with it!
Red Chili for supper!  We smelled it drifting out from Trail Riders yesterday leaving Bashas and had a chili attack and almost had to stop and eat some even though we had a car full of cold stuff!
